Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!!!!!
Category: Kings and Popes
Which King, temporarily repentant for interfering in the election of bishops, stood outside the castle where he found the Pope, for four days dressed as a penitent. The Pope at the time forgave him only to have the King oppose the Church all over again, forcing the Pope to flee?
Bonus points if you can tell me the name of the Pope, the castle that the King stood outside of, and the Abbey where the Pope fled.
St. Alex says, place your answer in the form of a question in the combox, say an Our Father while you wait for the answer to be revealed. Demerits for using Google. Educated guesses are welcome and encouraged.
And, since it's Memorial Day weekend, even though it's a bit early......

The pope would be Pope Gregory the VII, the king is Henry the IV. Pope Gregory said that the King no longer could chose the Bishops. Henry did not like this and fought with the Pope but soon realized that although german the pope was not to be mseed with so Henry went to Canossa as a penitent and stood out for 3 days.
The Pope Greogry fled to Salerno when Henry made Clement III the Pope crowned by Henry after the death of Gregory.
This all is called the investiture issue and was followed by the Concordat (Diet) of Worms.

A more complete answer would be impossible to find!! Wow!!
You get huge bonus points!
And I heard once that Vlad the Impaler (aka Dracula) did something along the lines of being a good Catholic boy one minute getting a Pope on side-and a very bad one the next.
I wish I could remember the story.
