Fisticuffs

It almost came to blows in the neighborhood last night. All the neighbor kids were sitting around on the grass of the neighbor's yard getting ready to play a game.

What to do?

Then someone suggested the game Duck, Duck, Goose.

Just to clarify, the game is called, Duck, Duck, GREY DUCK. This is Minnesota, that's what it's called here, everyone knows that. It's like Walter Mondale, Prince, hot dish, and ice fishing -- true blue Minnesotan.

Well, when one of the neighbor boys, a transplant from California, called it Duck, Duck, Goose, my son fraternally corrects him and tells him it's Duck, Duck, Grey Duck.

A shouting match ensued.

Needless to say, the game was called on account of poor sportsmanship. And, I'm happy to report, no one was injured.

I KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least it was the kids fighting and not the parents!

As I told my husband, the neighbor kid better learn to call it Duck, Duck, Grey Duck or he'll get his hiney kicked when he gets to school!

Yeah, but the California kid will hit them all in one fell swoop with a surfboard.

What would a kid drag around a surfboard in MN for? He'd get his butt kicked for sure (before any game of DUCK, DUCK, GRAY DUCK) provided he could get through the door of his house with it. Plus, he'd look pretty stupid getting plowed over in the lake by a water skier while he's floating lamely on his surfboard.

We just had a rousing conversation about this subject and my husband has informed my kids that they are NOT allowed to kick anyone's butt, ever...except if it's about the duck/goose controversy.

Good to see you are bringing those kids up right!! I think they make transplants to MN check their surfboards at the border before they are allowed in the state...I think it's for their own welfare.

Your husband and mine would get along famously. Bring your kids over any time and we'll show those interlopers how it's done!
