It wasn't until the late 18th century that this country was significantly exposed to Catholicism. A group, which later included three priests, none of them missionaries tasked to preach, settled here and Catholicism began to spread. Currently, slightly over a quarter of this country's population is Catholic.

What is the United States? We're about a quarter Catholic aren't we? Or is it that most people who identify as Catholics are about a quarter Catholic?

When England began transportation of the Irish to Australia, those transported brought their Catholic Faith with them.

Besides being a week late, I should have my mouth washed out with lava soap for thinking that the 18th century was the 1600s. A senior moment.
I will redeem myself by reminding the readers of the WJU contests that the reason that Australia was so late being populated populated with English prisoners was that there was another country that England used as a dumping ground.
But that country, on July 4, 1776 (late 18th century) declared it's independence from England and fought a seven year war and won it in 1883.
Anybody know the name of that country?
